Republicans. a day late and several billion dollars short.

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

The republicans showed their true colors with not one of them voting for the stimulus package in the house last week. Then they try and make up for their short sightedness and egotistical @ssholiness by appointing a black as the republican chair. This reminds me of what McCain did with his Palin choice. I can just hear the morons planning the strategy. Oh look, the world is tired of our rch white men worshipping. They are beginning to realize we only care about getting richer and richer at the expense of the rest of the world, and they are starting to turn to the democrats, we had better do something. Let’s get some women to run as vp. Too bad the @ssholes didn’t realize the dems had been there and done that 20 plus years ago and were trying to do it again with Hillary. Now, it’s oops, the dems are still kicking our butts let’s try to show that we get it with a black as chair!! Maybe these tricks will make them forget that we turned all of our fellow rich white cronies into “drillionairres” over the past eight years while screwing the rest of the country. Go republicans!! And by that, I mean go straight to HELL!!! Serena

Obama’s stimulus bill…

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

Teaching economics, I thought it would be wise to research what the 825 billion was being spent on. I googled it and brought the paper to class. Over all I think it makes some sense. 90 billion on frastructure, 15 billion towards pell grant money, 250 billion in tax cuts, and various amounts for education, medicaid, health industries … Hopefully it will do what it is designed to do and jump start the economy. It was a shame that not one Republican could vote for it. They will need to become less partisan or the world may freeze them out even more in the next elections. Hopefully all of you out there are making it ok in this crazy economy. Serena

obama’s speech

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

I made my students watch the Inauguration and Obama’s speech. Their comments were mostly negative. Of course most of my little darlings live in Redneckville so this negativity doesn’t surprise me, but I hope they will outgrow it. I told them that my little 18 month old grandbaby will have as her first president that she will have at least a flickering memory of will be an African American. Historically that is hugely significant, and my students are living the history. I thought he did a fine job with his speech. I understood that the speech would not be soaring rhetoric as it was on the campaign trail. Those days are over and the real task is at hand. I hope we come together as a nation and that he next four years or eight bring new hope to our nation. Serena

Could you live without your cell phone?

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

Could you live without your cell phone? You know like back in the day when people didn’t have it glued to their ear 24/7. Could you live without texting someone every minute of every hour of every day??? I was watching the news a couple of days ago and they had a story on about a girl who had sent thousands of text messages that month. It averaged out to 75 texts per hour. That is more than one per minute. That is insanity. This girl would have time to do nothing else except text all day. I guess I am getting old, but I don’t get the allure of this type of communication. I understand if you are in a crowd or some setting where you wouldn’t want all to hear your convo, but otherwise, I don’t get it. I would rather pick up the phone and call a person. Plus, it is dangerous, even more so than talking while driving as it takes the eyes off the task at hand. Remember the horrible train wreck in California I believe, a few months ago. Texting was the cause. My students at school swear they can text without looking, but I still think it is crazy. Also, it is destroying their grammar and spelling. I fight the cell phone issue daily in school. These kids can’t be away from their phone for a minute. They are addicted, and their parents and adults in their lives don’t respect boundaries either as they are calling and texting them non stop while their child is at school. I keep hoping this will phase out as most fads do, and the phone will go back to being just an important tool in their world and not an extension of their hand. I also heard on the news a few days ago how there was chip being added to car keys in which you could program your child’s phone number in, and while the ignition was running it would disable their phones so they couldn’t text or talk while driving. I want one which will disable it in the schools. Serena

American Idol: winners and losers…

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

Last night I tuned into see Simon beat up on the the talented and not so talented in Kansas City. There were some truly beautiful voices in the bunch, and then there were some… well, there were some morons who wanted to get on tv.
Seriously, do y’all think these people really think they can sing, are they that dilusional? Then they cry when they get sent home. What did they think would happen when they came out sounding like nails on a chalkboard for pete’s sake??!!??!! I can sing better than some of these people, and I CAN’T SING! I know this so I don’t go on shows like American Idol and torment the country with my non existing talent. They should have another show for the vocally challenged. Willaim Hung could host it. We could hear the worst of the worst on that show, and not hear them on a show that is really looking for talent. Serena

This one is pure female…

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

I’m having a bad day! Poor, poor , little ‘ol me! My hair needs coloring, and a new cut wouldn’t hurt any either. Don’t even get me started about the bloating going on here!!! And to top it off, I don’t have anything to wear!!! Also, my skin looks like crap. Otherwise all is well, LOL! I hate these times when the middle aged body all seems to fall apart on you ina matter of hours. I thought I was hanging in pretty well yesterday, but today’s another story. I’m seriously considering botox, but one look at Priscilla Presley should deter that idea. What I would really like is one of those masks that Jane Jetson used to have. I could just walk around behind the mask looking all good and no one would ver know!!! Serena

The economy

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

Job report was rather gloomy they say. The worst since 1945. It is just crazy. I really feel for people who are struggling in this economy. I live in west Texa, and we have not been hit thus far. Our local economy was actually booming with the ridiculous oil and gas prices, but that is starting to turn. Many oil companies are laying people off, and when that happens it will destroy our local economy. The really bad thing about it is that most oil workers are totally untrained in any other area. Several of them do not not even have a high school diploma, so when their oil job goes they are really destitute. Guess we will have to wait and see just how bad it gets. They say things will get worse before they get better. Serena

Ughh… I’ve got the crud

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

The whole family is sick, and I was all a bragging about how good I was feeling… well, not feeling so good any more. It’s ok as I still have some days off from work, but we are planning on leaving for a mini vacation in a couple of days up to the mountains. Hope I feel better. We are taking the grandbaby, and she hasn’t seen snow so we are hoping she is well and can enjoy it. We are staying in a cabin. I can’t wait!! It is absolutely beautiful. The town is always decorated to the hilt for Christmas so it should be really pretty. Hope all had a wonderful Christmas. I know I sure did. Too good! I don’t want to go back to work, but I guess I’ll be dragging my worthless butt back in a few days even if it kills me!! Serena

Bush’s new digs…

Published by dickerhoff under Uncategorized Edit This

President Bush will be moving soon to an upscale Dallas neighborhood. It is rumored that his home is in the $8 million dollar price range. I would say he made out rather well these past eight years. I am not a Bush fan, and I respect everyone’s opinion, but I don’t think I could live with myself if I were to buy a house at this cost with the economy in shambles. I wonder how many people have lost their homes during his administration? In my opinion, the man has no shame. I know it is America and I guess he made his fortune so he can spend it as he sees fit, maybe I’m jealous. I just think a little decorum might be called for. Serena
